PanTerra’s lab is specialized in the design of chemical EOR recipes. The chemical design project is taken through a series of set laboratory work-flows and experiments. These experiments include phase behaviour and solubility as well as adsorption and retention testing. Together with the client, PanTerra formulates the optimal chemical EOR recipe.

In order to predict the behaviour of the chemical design, core flood tests are performed. The reservoir core plug is put under pressure and temperature and saturated with the crude from the field. Subsequently, the EOR fluid or gas is being pumped through it. During the experiment, parameters such as efficiency, adsorption and injectivity can be measured. PanTerra offers also the interpretation of the core flood data and effluent analysis. The latter can be done by titration, UV spectrometer or High Pressure Liquid Chromatograph (HPLC).

Polymer is an essential part of a chemical EOR design. It can be used on its own on heavy oil or in combination with Surfactant, Alkali or Ammonia on lighter crudes. In order to get the right design for polymer several tests need to be done: Polymer Rheology (viscosity vs concentration), Polymer adsorption, Polymer stability over time and temperature, Polymer compatibility with formation\injection water, surfactant and other chemicals. These experiments address the above parameters and together with the client PanTerra formulates the optimal polymer and chemical EOR recipe.
