Sequence stratigraphic controls on reservoir-scale mechanical stratigraphy of shallow-water carbonates

Last week, our Reservoir Geologist, Francesco Vinci, presented the results of his PhD project at the Petroleum Geology Student Contest. The work aimed at identifying the sequence stratigraphic controls on reservoir-scale mechanical stratigraphy of shallow-water carbonates. Work was done by integrating sequence stratigraphic analysis with multi-scale fracture characterization of outcrop analogues. Results of the outcrop study were tested with a subsurface dataset. The main outcome of this study is the proposal of a new approach to estimate large-scale fracture intensity in carbonate reservoirs, based on the evaluation of the thickness of mechanical units through sequence stratigraphy.

His presentation was awarded with a Special Mention (2nd prize) from the judging committee.
