SDE++ 2026: Time to Prepare Your Geothermal Application

The next SDE++ round is approaching fast. Application for the Dutch subsidy scheme will open on 22 September 2026 and close on 19 October 2026 — a crucial window for developers of sustainableenergy projects to secure funding.

SDE++ supports technologies that reduce CO₂ emissions, including both low‑ and high‑temperature geothermal systems. With the growing focus on reliable, renewable heat, geothermal projects are well positioned to benefit from this scheme.

A successful SDE++ application requires more than meeting the formal criteria. It demands thorough preparation, strong technical foundations, and precise timing. Key steps typically include:

  1. Feasibility screening and a well‑supported go/no‑go decision
  2. Preparation of all required documentation — with the geological study as a central component for geothermal projects
  3. Submission at the start of the application window, as the scheme operates on a first‑come, first‑served basis

Given the first-come, first-served structure, timing and readiness are decisive.
Projects that are not submission-ready at the start of the opening phase typically lose their competitive position within the round.

Once the grant is awarded, project realization can begin — including drilling and further development activities.

With nearly 15 years of experience supporting geothermal SDE++ applications, PanTerra has built a strong and consistent track record across multiple rounds. Our team has supported a significant share of the geothermal applications that ultimately received funding, helping developers move from concept to execution with confidence.

We are ready to support geothermal developers for the 2026 SDE++ round, from early‑stage screening and geological assessments to complete application preparation and submission.

If you’d like to explore how we can support your project, we’d be happy to connect.
