| All-round geologist with over 40 years research and teaching experience in many different fields of earth sciences, including sedimentology and sediment geochemistry, metamorphic petrology, volcanology, remote sensing and quaternary geology. Established in the last 15 years successful research team in process-based modelling of sedimentary systems as full professor of geology at the Geotechnology group of Delft University of Technology. 20 years of experience in sea-level studies in the Caspian Sea in cooperation with oil companies, as a tool in reservoir characterisation in the South Caspian Basin. Also 40 years of geological experience in northern South America, including both mineral and hydrocarbon exploration. Over 100 international publications published two successful popular science books on geology, many media performances. Past president of the Royal Netherlands Geological and Mining Society and of the Earth and Climate Council of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. Now retired, independent consultant and honorary professor Moscow State University, ten languages. |
